After a few years and several different gaming attempts, I have been able to resurrect a character that I truly feel I completely destroyed when I played him. When I rolled him up, I had an idea I was working on. He wasn't based off of someone, it was just an idea of how I wanted this character to be played. Unfortunately, through the course of the adventure, my humble character turned into a veritable mess.
Volrath was to be the typical rogue, moving through the shadows to make pin-point strikes against the enemies. Soon though, I found him in the front lines, out in the open. That was just the start of the downward spiral and the loss of the original vision of Volrath. Sure he made it to around level 50 and could take on deities, but that was never the intent of the character. After realizing it I wanted to change it and redo him. That opportunity waited until now to show up.
My previous D&D game ended and my character was shelved, but the DM soon asked if we were interested in starting a new game in the newest edition. I started thinking of a character and before I knew it a familiar voice drifted into my head. Volrath was ready to come back and try his luck again. Sure the rules have changed. The game isn't quite the same as it was before, but I feel that this version is a better representation of what I had seen for Volrath than what I had hoped.
Below is how Volrath turned out for my first adventure with him in the world of Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition.
( Volrath, Tiefling Rogue-Artful Dodger (1) )
So far not much has happened with him, but I have a very good feeling about this go around. I'll probably post a few more times with Volrath once he's gained a few levels.
